Brandy once drew the comparison between her brother Ray-J and herself that, “He sings like me, but in a boyish way.” The influence of his sister is evident in his style. The beats, on the other hand, have quite a different flava' than anything we've heard Brandy on. They are nonetheless quite funky, and rather captivating. As the CD begins, the listener is led into the recurring theme, “Feel The Funk,” which establishes an appropriate pretence for the album. After the intro, we're given a funky, upbeat track, “Let It Go,” giving the CD a strong opening. This is one bangin' joint. The title track, “Everything You Want,” combines a dope beat with a catchy hook. This is followed by “Good Thangs;” a little more relaxed, to a clever beat. “The Promise” is a nice slow-jam. Next comes “Changes;” a tight groove with a thick beat and haunting melodies. An enormous smile jumps onto Kevin's face right about now as the incredibly sweet voice of Brandy joins her brother to sing “Thank You.” This song is sweet, sweet, sweet! Then the next track, “Let It Go Part II,” drops the CD's theme over a laid-back, funky beat. Next is, “Can't Run, Can't Hide,” with a moody beat and hook. Ray-J is joined by Keith Crouch on “Rock With Me.” This number's got one bumpin' beat. “Love You From My Heart” slows it down to tell the story of a young lad in love, in a smooth groove. “High On You” picks up the beat a lil'. The album winds down with an in places nice, mellow song; “Because Of You.” It is closed by the “Feel The Funk” theme. Ray-J sings with a fairly smooth voice and good vibratto. As with Brandy's first album, this is a mostly lighthearted album with a good share of bumpin' tracks, making it a good choice to throw in while working. |
